Transfer Students

Transfer students are a big part of our department. Here's how to prepare, apply and get started in Anthropology at SDSU.

Transfer into Anthropology at SDSU

Apply

Apply through Cal State Apply and choose Anthropology. For Fall 2027, apply by November 30, 2026.

Prepare

Take introductory biological, cultural and archaeology courses equivalent to ANTH 101/102/103. Earn a C or better, with letter grades (not credit/no credit).

Plan

Use ASSIST.org to see which of your community college courses count toward the major at SDSU.

Earning an Associate Degree for Transfer?

SDSU accepts the Anthropology AA-T. Students with the degree who apply to SDSU Anthropology receive admission priority. Admission is not guaranteed, and your community college must verify your degree by March 15, 2027 for Fall 2027.

Plan ahead: foreign language

The Anthropology B.A. requires competency in one foreign language: three college semesters (or five quarters). Completing it at community college keeps your two years at SDSU free for the major.

Sample two-year plan after you transfer

Semester Anthropology courses
Fall, year 1 ANTH 301, ANTH 303 and ANTH 395
Spring, year 1 ANTH 302, ANTH 304 and a methods course
Fall, year 2 A second methods course or an internship, and electives
Spring, year 2 A 500-level course and remaining electives
